NA310G · Örebro University · Autumn 2026
From a research question to results you can defend
Magnus Lodefalk’s part of Economics Research and Communication: the practical application of econometrics in Stata. Two lectures, three computer labs and an individual empirical report on how AI relates to Swedish firms and jobs, on a twin of the research data behind it: firm accounts from Serrano, job ads and AI-exposure measures.
Every number in your report should come from a do-file that anyone can rerun. That is the standard in economics journals, and it is the standard here.

What this part examines
- Computer labs (A001, compulsory): attend at least two of the three labs, preferably Lab 1 and Lab 2. Participation is required before you can submit the report. If you cannot attend for special reasons, contact Magnus Lodefalk in advance.
- Individual report (A004, 3.5 credits): a quantitative analysis of an economic question with panel data in Stata, written up as a short research report of at most 2,500 words (tables, references and appendix not counted). Instructions are handed out at Lab 1.
The written exam (A005, 4 credits) is Daniela Andrén’s; see the course guide.

Coming here before the labs
The labs, the report instructions, a Stata project template, and answers to the questions students ask most often. The rules for using AI are already up. The data page explains the course data, and how to get Serrano free for your thesis.
